Walter Walsh as Tauraru with his henchmen at Smash Palace: note the Super 8 moviola on the shelf, underneath the blue fish.
Film makers are introspective souls, revelling in hidden inner meanings and often delighting in private in-jokes and homages discretely placed throughout their work. It is these idiosyncratic touches that add a unique and personal directorial style.
Whilst editing the material we shot at Gisborne's iconic Smash Palace, which stood in for Gang HQ, amongst all the paraphernalia which make smash palace so special, I spotted this Super 8 film editor in the corner of the frame.
In common with so many of today's film directors, I have fond memories of many hours spent at the kitchen table, agonising over editing decisions made on a Super 8 moviola!
